Organic Bee Farm Popovi, Kalofer

Biological Bee Farm - Popovi, town of Kalofer

Popovi Bee Farm is a small family farm that produces boutique quantities of organic honey and bee products. Founded by Grozdan Popov, who started beekeeping as a hobby back in 1996, the farm became one of the first certified beekeepers in Bulgaria by Balkan Biocert in 2003, alongside several other beekeepers. After 18 years of hard work, we now have 250 hives from which we produce Acacia, Honeydew, and Polyflora honey, along with flower pollen and propolis. Our beehives are located in two ecologically clean areas, ensuring that the sources of nectar and pollen within a 3 km radius of the hives are predominantly organically grown crops and natural vegetation. This contributes to the purity and compliance of our honey and bee products with strict organic certification standards. Our organic bee product certification is valid in the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, the USA, Canada, the UK, Japan, Switzerland, and more. We recently launched an online shop where you can purchase organic honey and bee products directly from us, the producers, at the most affordable prices.

Our bee farm holds certificates for organic bee products from Balkan Biocert, the first national control and certification body for organic production in Bulgaria. We operate with a well-trained and highly qualified staff, offering quality and accessible services to organic farmers, processors, and traders. "Balkan Biocert" is a product of international cooperation aimed at meeting the needs of Bulgarian organic operators.

Honey from Popovi Farm:
Every beehive in the world is unique, just like the bee products we "collect" from our friends, the bees—honey, flower pollen, and propolis. This uniqueness is due to the diverse surrounding flora. Around our apiary, there are many acacia and oak forests, linden trees, chestnuts, meadows, wild herbs, and more. In our boutique honey varieties, you can enjoy natural flavors that are closest to nature.

Acacia Honey is the earliest honey collected and is very difficult to gather. During this time of year, bee colonies emerge from their toughest period—winter. Additionally, the bees have a minimal amount of honey in their hives, and this is their first significant forage, essential for both them and us. The acacia bloom lasts only 10-15 days and provides the honey that sustains the bees through winter. Our acacia honey has a nearly transparent color and crystallizes very slowly. It is characterized by a delicate and mild taste and aroma. It is exceptionally suitable for children due to its low pollen content, which minimizes the likelihood of allergies and even helps build immunity against allergies. Its high fructose content makes it suitable for diabetics as it reduces the need for insulin. Acacia honey is beneficial during cold seasons and is often used to relieve upper respiratory inflammation.

Polyflora Honey from the Popovi family is collected in June and July, following the acacia bloom. During this time, various wild herbs bloom in the organic beekeeping area. The family’s herbal honey has a strong flavor, an amber color, and a very intense aroma. You can detect the presence of linden, lavender, and other herbs. We recommend herbal honey consumption, particularly for individuals under mental stress, due to its lavender content. The herbs, particularly linden and lavender, soothe the nervous system, allowing for easier sleep when taken half an hour before bedtime. It is recommended for colds and flu, sore throats, wounds, and gastritis. Herbal honey is a natural antioxidant.

Honeydew Honey from our farm is a special type of honey that is produced not from flower nectar but from the sweet sap secreted by the buds and leaves of oak trees, known as honeydew or "manna." This is where the name of the honey comes from. Under suitable weather conditions, bees produce it only once every few years. Honeydew honey is harvested in the summer—July to August—when it is hottest. Only then do oak trees release the honeydew. Bees collect it, creating a thick, dark honey with low water content. It is darker in color than our nectar honey and has a reddish hue. The taste is stronger (slightly bitter) with a pleasant oak/wood aroma. You can also detect a subtle flavor of wild thyme or mint. Honeydew honey contains 5 to 9 times more minerals compared to other types of honey and is richer in vitamins and minerals than nectar honey. It possesses unique healing properties due to its strong antibacterial effect and ability to strengthen the immune system. It treats many health issues. Like other types of honey, honeydew honey is a source of quick energy and is suitable for intense physical exertion.

Bee honey of Popovi farm:

Every apiary in the world is unique in itself and its bee products, which we "steal" from our friends the bees - honey, pollen and propolis. This is because of the diverse plant flora that surrounds them. Around our beekeeping sites there are many acacia and oak forests, linden, ash trees, chestnuts, softwoods, meadows, wild spreading herbs and others. In our boutique types of honey, you can enjoy natural flavors closest to nature.

Acacia honey is the earliest and is very difficult to collect. At this time of the year, the bee colonies come out of the most difficult period for them - winter. In addition, bees have a minimal amount of honey in their hives, and for them this is the first major pasture during which they must collect honey not only for us but also for themselves. Acacia grazing lasts very short - only 10-15 days. This is also the honey with which bees hibernate. The acacia honey of our farm has an almost transparent color, it crystallizes very slowly. It is characterized by a fine and delicate taste and aroma. It is extremely suitable for children due to the low content of pollen, which makes the occurrence of allergies unlikely, even helping to build immunity against allergies. The high fructose content makes it suitable for diabetics by reducing the need for insulin. Acacia honey is suitable during the cold season, and is used to relieve inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

The polyfloral honey of the Popovi family is collected in June and July after the acacia grazing. During this time of year, a variety of wild herbs bloom in the biological beekeeping area. The herbal honey of the Popovi family is strong in taste, amber in color and has a very intense aroma and taste. You can feel the presence of linden, lavender, thistle and other herbs. We recommend the consumption of herbal honey especially to people under mental stress due to its lavender content. The linden and lavender herbs in it calm the nervous system, and when taken half an hour before going to bed, one falls asleep more easily. Recommended for colds and flu, sore throat, wounds, gastritis. Herbal honey is a natural antioxidant.

Manov The manov honey of our bee farm is a special type of honey that is produced not from flower nectar, but from sweet juice separated from the buds and leaves of the oak tree, called manna or honeydew. That is where the name of honey comes from. Once every few years, under suitable weather conditions, the bees produce it. Manna honey is harvested in summer - July - August, when it is the hottest. Only then does the oak release the honeydew. The bees collect it and make a thick, dark honey with a low water content. It is darker in color than our nectar honey and has a reddish tint. The taste is stronger (slightly bitter), has a very pleasant oak/wood aroma. You can also feel a slight taste of wild thyme or mint in it. Manna honey contains 5 to 9 times more minerals than other types of honey. Manna honey is richer in vitamins and minerals than nectarine honey. It has unique healing properties, which are due to its strong antibacterial effect and its ability to strengthen the immune system. It treats many health problems. Manna honey, like other types of honey, is a source of quick energy and is suitable for intense physical exertion.
